SNK Soccer Academy: Understanding the New Age Group Registration Structure
SNK Soccer Academy is excited to share important updates regarding the upcoming changes to age group registration. As we transition into the new structure, our goal is to ensure a smooth and seamless process for all families while continuing to provide the best possible developmental environment for our players. This article will outline what the changes mean, how they impact team placement, and what families can expect moving forward.
Beginning with the 2026/2027 season, all U.S. soccer teams will be formed using a seasonal year calendar (August 1 – July 31) instead of the current birth year calendar (January 1 – December 31).
Why the change? Below is a statement from our governing body USYS:
“We believe this shift to an August 1st player formation cycle better aligns with school calendars, supports social and individual needs, and ultimately enhances the youth soccer experience for families across the country.”
What is SNK doing to prepare for this change? We have been thoughtfully reviewing and re-evaluating each roster from the previous year while actively designing the 2026/2027 tryouts to build strong, competitive teams that fully support and advance our developmental goals.
What does this mean for your player? SNK will place players on their age appropriate teams in accordance with the new guidelines. In certain cases, we may move players up one age group if we believe it will best support and enhance their development. In addition, we will keep in mind our current team rosters.

Aug 1st 2017 - July 31st 2018 (U9)
Aug 1st 2016 - July 31st 2017 (U10)
